At dawn on Monday, 12 May 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners convicted of drug-related charges were carried out in Arak Central Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the executions took place early Monday morning. The identities of the three executed prisoners have been confirmed as Mohammad Abdi, Ne’mat Piri Zali, and Jalil Azizi.
The report states that Mohammad Abdi, son of Amrollah, and Jalil Azizi were both residents of Arak, while Ne’mat Piri Zali, son of Sho’abbas, was from the village of Dowrahi Zali in Delfan County. All three had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related offences. The executions were carried out in the early hours of 12 May 2025 at Arak Central Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
