Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, the death sentences of at least three prisoners previously convicted on drug-related charges were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, three prisoners were hanged early Wednesday morning in Ghezel Hesar Prison. Their identities have been confirmed as Sajjad Moradi, Masoud Naseri, and Ardeshir Soltanabadi. The status of other prisoners who, according to earlier reports, were transferred to solitary confinement on 8 June remains under investigation.

The report adds that Sajjad Moradi, a native of Harsin, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for drug-related offences. On 1 May, he had been transferred to solitary confinement for execution along with several others, but the sentence was temporarily halted due to his memorisation of the Quran. However, as he remained in the execution ward, his fellow inmates anticipated the sentence would be carried out—an outcome that has now been confirmed.

Masoud Naseri, from Kermanshah, was also sentenced to death in a separate drug-related case. Ardeshir Soltanabadi, from Kangavar, had been convicted of transporting 25 kilograms of narcotics. All three were executed at dawn on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
