Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, November 28, the death sentences of three prisoners convicted on charges of “murder” and “drug-related offenses” were carried out in Shiraz Central Prison (Adelabad).

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least three prisoners were executed in Shiraz Central Prison (Adelabad) on Thursday, November 28, 2024, for charges of “murder” and “drug-related offenses.” The identities of the prisoners—Amin Maleki, Mehdi Shirvani, and Fardin Abdollahi—have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

As reported by Breathing in Confinement, Amin Maleki, aged 34 and from Safashahr, was arrested four years ago on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Breathing in Confinement had reported the transfer of Amin Maleki to solitary confinement in preparation for his execution the previous day. Mehdi Shirvani and Fardin Abdollahi were arrested in 2022 on joint charges of “drug-related offenses” and were also sentenced to death. Their sentences were carried out at dawn on Thursday, November 28, in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
