Breathing in Confinement – The death sentences of at least three prisoners who had been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death were carried out in Urmia Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Sunday, 31 August, three prisoners were executed in Urmia Prison. The identities of these prisoners, “Morteza Ziji, Rahman Javan Chonqeralouyikan, and Javad Mali,” have been verified by Breathing in Confinement.
Morteza Ziji, son of Aliqoli, 34, from Miandoab; Rahman Javan Chonqeralouyikan, 33, from the village of Chonqeralouyikan; and Javad Mali, from Urmia, had previously been arrested in separate cases on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Their executions were carried out at dawn on Sunday, 31 August 2025, in Urmia Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
