Breathing in Confinement: On the morning of Sunday, September 15, two prisoners were hanged in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz, on charges related to “drug offenses.”
According to the Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the League for Human Rights of Iranian Prisoners, the execution of two prisoners was carried out in Shiraz Central Prison on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024.
The identity of one of these prisoners, Saeed Khajeh Heydari, has been confirmed by the Breathing in Confinement. According to a reliable source speaking to the Breathing in Confinement, 30-year-old Saeed Khajeh Heydari, from Jiroft, had previously been arrested on charges related to “drug offenses.” He was initially held in Neyriz Prison and later transferred to Shiraz Prison. He was sentenced to execution without having a lawyer.
Concurrently, another prisoner, identified as Sasan Ben (Bozorgzadeh), was executed in Shiraz Central Prison. He was also charged with “drug offenses.” Sasan Ben, 33, from Sarbaz City and residing in Iranshahr, had been arrested in 2019.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
