Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Saturday, 29 March 2025, the death sentences of at least two prisoners convicted of charges related to drug offences and murder were carried out in Tabriz Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Tabriz Prison on the morning of 29 March 2025. The identities of the prisoners have been confirmed by the Breathing in Confinement as Morteza Saadatpour Zeini and Mohsen Hedayat.
According to information received by Breathing in Confinement, Morteza Saadatpour Zeini, 32, from the village of Zinabad in Sofian, was arrested three years ago on charges related to drug offences and subsequently sentenced to death. The other prisoner, Mohsen Hedayat, had previously been convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Both executions were carried out at dawn on Saturday, 29 March in Tabriz Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, five people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
