Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Monday, 14 April 2025, the death sentences of at least two prisoners convicted on charges of “political offences” and murder were carried out in Zahedan Central Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Zahedan Central Prison early Monday morning. The individuals were identified as Ali Dehani and Ali Balochzehi.

As reported by Breathing in Confinement, citing Hal Vash, 22-year-old political prisoner Ali Dehani, a conscript soldier from the village of Genk in the Sib and Soran district, was arrested on 6 November 2022 on charges of murder. He was subjected to severe torture following his arrest and also faced continued abuse in Ward 9 (political prisoners’ ward) of Zahedan Prison at the hands of the ward chief and prison guards.

Ali Dehani was reportedly tortured by the Intelligence Ministry and the Criminal Investigation Department of Zahedan to force him into confessing to the killing of four officers at the Kaskin checkpoint, where he was stationed as a soldier. He later retracted the confession in court, stating it had been made under torture. Despite this, he was sentenced to death in a trial described as highly opaque.

The other prisoner, Ali Balochzehi, from Bampur in the Saravan region, had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death.

Both executions were carried out at dawn on Monday, 14 April 2025, in Zahedan Central Prison.
