Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Saturday, 28 April 2025, the death sentences of at least two prisoners who had been convicted of drug-related offences and murder were carried out in Isfahan Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged in Isfahan Central Prison early on Saturday, 28 April 2025. The identities of the executed individuals have been confirmed as Mehnaz Kakaei and Ali Soofian.

According to information received by Breathing in Confinement, Mehnaz Kakaei, 24 years old and a resident of Isfahan, was arrested in 2020 on charges of murdering her husband and was sentenced to death. Ali Soofian, from Shiraz, was arrested three years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. The sentences were carried out at dawn on Saturday, 28 April, in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, five people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
