According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between 21 April and 1 May 2025, at least 51 individuals were executed in different prisons nationwide. These executions, carried out on various charges, reflect a sharp escalation in judicial violence and repression in Iran.
The report states that Iranian authorities have intensified executions in response to rising domestic unrest and recent international failures. The new wave of executions occurs amid ongoing concerns regarding the lack of fair trials and violations of the rights of the accused.

In addition, according to a reporter from Breathing in Confinement, a public execution order has been issued for a prisoner in the city of Malekan in East Azerbaijan province, which is expected to be carried out in the coming days.
The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, citing universal human rights principles, Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and the responsibility of governments to guarantee the right to life, calls on all responsible international bodies and figures—including the UN Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Special Rapporteurs on Iran and on Torture—to immediately respond to this wave of executions in Iran.
