Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the death sentences of at least four prisoners—including one accused of espionage, one convicted of murder, and two convicted of drug-related offences—were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the four individuals were executed early Wednesday morning in Ghezel Hesar Prison. The identified prisoners are Mohsen Langar-Neshin, Hamid Fazeli, and Asghar Vatanparast. The identity of the fourth executed prisoner is still under investigation.
According to the report, Mohsen Langar-Neshin, son of Masoud and 34 years old, was arrested in July 2023 on charges of espionage and collaboration with foreign governments and later sentenced to death.
Hamid Fazeli, a Tehran resident, was arrested four years ago and sentenced to death for murder.
Asghar Vatanparast, from Shiraz, was arrested in 2016 on drug-related charges and also sentenced to death.
The identity of the fourth prisoner, who was also convicted on drug-related charges, remains unconfirmed at this time.
All four executions were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners (except for Mohsen Langar-Neshin) has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
