Breathing in Confinement – The execution of at least two prisoners who had previously been arrested on charges of “rape” and sentenced to death was carried out at Qaemshahr Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, citing the Mizan News Agency, in the early hours of Tuesday, 23 December 2025, the death sentences of two prisoners were carried out at Qaemshahr Prison. The official report published by Mizan did not disclose the identities of the executed prisoners.
However, reporters from Breathing in Confinement have confirmed that the two executed prisoners were Seyed Yaser Qoreishi and Mohammadreza Nikjouyan.
Abbas Pouriani, Head of the Judiciary of Mazandaran Province, described the two prisoners in official remarks as “members of a criminal gang,” stating that in 2024 they had committed at least 19 armed robberies in various areas of Tehran using firearms, including Kalashnikov rifles and handguns, and had stolen valuables by threatening residents in their homes.
Nevertheless, according to available information, the judicial case against these two prisoners was ultimately prosecuted under the charge of “rape,” and their death sentences were issued and carried out on that basis by the judiciary.
In this connection, local sources told Breathing in Confinement that the two prisoners had been acquainted and in a relationship with a young woman approximately five years ago. According to these sources, following a dispute and one of the men’s refusal to proceed with a marriage proposal requested by the woman, she filed a complaint alleging “rape” with the judicial authorities. These claims have not been independently verified or refuted, and no transparent official information has been released regarding the judicial process, including how consent was assessed, the evidentiary basis for the charges, or whether the defendants had access to independent legal representation.
