Breathing in Confinement — At least six prisoners convicted on charges including drug offences, murder, and rape were executed by hanging at Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, at dawn on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the identities of those executed have been verified as Faramarz Shahbazi, Kazem Fatemi, Hossein Biabani (from Kangavar), Ahmad-Ali Mehri (from Tazeh Abad, Kuhdasht), Hesam Mohammadi (murder), and Ahmad Yousefi (an Afghan national; rape). A previous report had named five; the sixth has now been confirmed as Faramarz Shahbazi.
Available case details indicate: Faramarz Shahbazi, son of Hojjatollah, from Kermanshah and a former karate champion, had been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. Kazem Fatemi had been arrested for allegedly carrying 12 kg of methamphetamine (“shisheh”). Hossein Biabani and Ahmad-Ali Mehri had also been arrested and sentenced on drug-related charges. Hesam Mohammadi had been convicted of murder, and Ahmad Yousefi—an Afghan national—of rape. The sentences were carried out at dawn on 27 August 2025.
