Breathing in Confinement – The death sentences of at least two prisoners convicted of “murder” were carried out at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of Sunday, 17 August, two prisoners were hanged in Shiraz Central Prison. Their identities have been confirmed as Ahmadreza Younesi Gallehzan and Mehdi Najafi.
Ahmadreza Younesi Gallehzan, from Kovar and a member of the Gallehzan branch of the Qashqai tribe, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder.” Mehdi Najafi, from Marvdasht and approximately 23 years old, had also been arrested and sentenced to death on similar charges. The executions were carried out at dawn on Sunday, 17 August 2025, at Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
