Breathing in Confinement – The execution of at least four prisoners, who had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to “narcotics offences,” was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, four prisoners were hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison. The identities of two of these prisoners, “Sajjad Sadeghi” and “Hooman Garavand,” have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement. The identities of the other two prisoners are still under investigation.
Sajjad Sadeghi, from Kuhdasht, and Hooman Garavand, from the Sartorhan district of Kuhdasht, had previously been arrested on charges related to “narcotics offences” and sentenced to death. Their sentences were carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
