Increase in the number of executed prisoners in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, to 11, including one woman

Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at least 11 prisoners were executed in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, on charges including “murder, drug-related crimes, rape, and armed robbery.”
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, these 11 prisoners were convicted and sentenced to death for charges such as “murder, drug-related crimes, rape, and armed robbery.”
Previously, “Breathing in Confinement” had reported the execution of five prisoners.
The identity of the 11th prisoner, Siavash (Afshin) Abolhasani, has been confirmed by “Breathing in Confinement.” According to a knowledgeable source, Siavash Abolhasani, a resident of Salehiyeh Baharestan, was arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death. His execution, along with 10 other prisoners, was carried out on Wednesday in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
The identities of three other executed prisoners, Fazlollah Pournassiri and Hamzeh Shahbazi (for drug-related crimes) and Behnam Hossein Dastjerdi (for murder), had already been confirmed by “Breathing in Confinement.” In addition to these four prisoners, Ali Mamshlou and Morteza Abdolhosseinpour were executed for “moharebeh” (war against God) due to armed robbery; Saber Haqmoradi, Moloud Khaledian, and an unidentified woman were executed for murder; and two Afghan nationals were executed for rape. With the identification of Siavash Abolhasani, the number of prisoners executed on Wednesday, October 2, in Qezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, has increased to 11.
Among the 11 executed prisoners, only the execution of five, including a woman (whose identity was not disclosed), was reported by the news agency “Hamshahri Online.”
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
