Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, January 8, the execution of at least two prisoners, who had been arrested and sentenced to death on “drug related” charges was carried out at Shahab Prison in Kerman.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed early Wednesday morning, January 8, in Kerman Prison for charges related to “drug offenses.” The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as Amin Ramazani and Hamid Ashena.

As reported by a correspondent for Breathing in Confinement, Amin Ramazani, a resident of Jahrom, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for “drug offenses.” Additionally, Halvash had earlier reported the impending execution of a prisoner named Hamid Ashena (Notizehi), a resident of the village of Shovor in Zahedan, on similar charges. The sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, January 8, at Shahab Prison in Kerman.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
