Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner, convicted of armed drug trafficking and murder, has been carried out at the central prison in Kerman.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Monday, 21 July 2025, a prisoner was executed by hanging in Shahab Prison, Kerman. The individual has been identified by Breathing in Confinement as Mohammad Amin Habibi.

According to the report, Mohammad Amin Habibi, a resident of Khash, had previously been wanted on charges of armed drug trafficking and the murder of two police officers. He was reportedly involved in a final confrontation during which he killed one officer and left another paralysed.

Following his arrest, he was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Kerman Province. The sentence was carried out at dawn on Monday, 21 July 2025, in Shahab Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
