Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Thursday, February 20, 2025, the execution of at least two prisoners sentenced to death on murder charges, was carried out in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz. Previously, Breathing in Confinement had reported the execution of one prisoner.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed in Ahvaz Prison on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025. Their identities have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Vahid Zeilaei and Babak Hajipour .
Based on received information, Vahid Zeilaei, a resident of Ahvaz, had been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death. Breathing in Confinement had previously revealed the identity of Babak Hajipour, a resident of Masjed Soleyman, who had also been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death.
The sentences were carried out at dawn on Thursday, February 20, in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
