Breathing in Confinement – The death sentence of at least one prisoner who had been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Sunday, 31 August 2025, a prisoner was hanged in Ghezel Hesar Prison. His identity has been confirmed by this human rights organisation as Soleiman Koushki. He had been transferred to solitary confinement the previous Monday along with several other death-row prisoners, but his execution was initially halted and he was returned to the general ward before being executed days later.

Soleiman Koushki, from Kuhdasht, had earlier been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out at dawn on Sunday, 31 August 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
