Breathing in Confinement — The death sentences of at least two prisoners, who had been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death, were carried out at Qezel Hesar Prison.
According to information received by reporters from Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were hanged at dawn on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at Qezel Hesar Prison. The identities of the prisoners have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Amir Hossein Mayeli and Saeed Malekian. Breathing in Confinement had previously reported the execution of Saeed Malekian on 28 January.
Amir Hossein Mayeli, from Tehran, and Saeed Malekian, from Shahriar, had earlier been arrested in separate cases on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Their sentences were carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at Qezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
