Breathing in Confinement: The death sentence of a prisoner, previously arrested and sentenced to death on charges of “murder”, has been carried out in Rasht Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the early hours of Saturday, 16 May 2026, a prisoner was hanged in Rasht Prison. The identity of the prisoner has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement as Shahin Tafteh.
According to the report, Shahin Tafteh, a resident of Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh and the father of a young daughter, had previously been arrested on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, 16 May 2026, in Rasht Prison.

Annual report on executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistical Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, between March 2025 and March 2026, at least 2,616 individuals were executed in Iran.
