“Breathing in Confinement”: At dawn on Wednesday, January 1, the death sentences of at least two prisoners who had been arrested and convicted of “murder” were carried out in Dieselabad Prison, Kermanshah.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of Wednesday, January 1, two prisoners were executed in Kermanshah Prison on charges of “murder.” The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed as Meysam Farhadi and Reza Bakhtiari.

 

As reported by “Breathing in Confinement,” quoting the human rights organization Hengaw, Meysam Farhadi Farashi, a 29-year-old from Farash, a village near Harsin, and Reza Bakhtiari, from Kermanshah, had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for “murder.” These two prisoners were executed secretly at dawn on Wednesday, January 1, in Dieselabad Prison, Kermanshah, without prior notice or the opportunity for a final meeting with their families.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
