According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Saturday, January 26, Zargham Jahandideh Soha, a 36-year-old prisoner sentenced to death on charges of “murder,” was executed in Ardabil Prison.
Zargham Jahandideh Soha, son of Jamshid, was from the village of Soha, located in the Vilkij rural district of Namin County. He was a father of two and had been arrested five years ago following a dispute that resulted in an unintentional killing, leading to his death sentence.
According to received reports, the altercation between Zargham and another individual occurred due to provocation by others. The victim, who was attempting to break up the fight, was unintentionally killed by Zargham.
Despite an initial agreement by the victim’s family to accept 30 billion tomans in blood money (diya) and extensive efforts by the public and philanthropists who managed to collect 50 billion tomans, the victim’s family despite their repeated promises, ultimately refused to grant clemency. As a result, Zargham Jahandideh Soha’s execution was carried out at dawn on Saturday, January 26, in Ardabil Prison.
