Breathing in Confinement: On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, a prisoner sentenced to death for drug-related charges was executed in Karaj Central Prison. Also, in the last week, at least 15 other prisoners were executed in the cities of Arak, Qazvin, Semnan, Shiraz, Khorram Abad and Hamedan.
According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the death sentence of a prisoner sentenced to death for drug-related crimes was carried out on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. This prisoner, whose identity has been verified by “Breathing in Confinement”, was named Reza Tajik.
Also, according to reports received by “Breathing in Confinement” at dawn on Monday, December 12, the death sentences of five prisoners who were sentenced to death on drug-related charges were executed in Arak prison.
According to another report, two prisoners named Youssef Mirzabeigi from Qasr Shirin, Kermanshah Province and Mohammad Ali Seidi were executed in Qazvin Central Prison on charge of murder .
In addition, on Wednesday, December 14, the death sentences of two prisoners named Mehdi Khoshbakht, 37, father of 2, and Hamed Nobakht were executed in Hamadan prison.
In another report, two prisoners named Asghar Alizadeh and Ebrahim Broujerdi were executed in Khorram Abad Central Prison on drug related charges.
According to a report received by “Breathing in Confinement”, two prisoners were also executed in Shiraz prison in the last week, whose identities are yet to be identified.
Earlier, Breathing in Confinement reported the execution of two female prisoners accused of drug-related crimes in Semnan.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, in the last one year (October 10, 2021-October 10, 2022), at least 537 prisoners were executed in various Iranian prisons. Only 9% of the executions were officially announced and 91% of them were executed in secret.
