Breathing in Confinement – At dawn on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, the death sentences of at least two prisoners convicted of drug-related offences were carried out in Shahab Prison, Kerman.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed in the early hours of Tuesday at Shahab Prison. Their identities have been confirmed as Rahim Rahimnejad and Abubakr Shahbakhsh.

As reported, Rahim (Yadgar) Rahimnejad, from Baneh, had been arrested two years ago after he accepted 40 million tomans in exchange for transporting a passenger to Tehran. Upon approaching a checkpoint, the passenger fled, leading to Rahimnejad’s arrest on drug trafficking charges. Though the fleeing passenger was arrested a year later, Rahimnejad’s death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.

The second prisoner, Abubakr Shahbakhsh, 36, son of Abdol, a married man from Sarjangal, was arrested four years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.

Both executions were carried out at dawn on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, in Shahab Prison, Kerman.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
