Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Monday, September 16, the death sentences of three prisoners convicted of “murder” and drug-related crimes were carried out in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the executions took place at dawn on Monday, September 16, 2024, in Adel Abad Prison, Shiraz.
The identities of these prisoners have been confirmed by “Breathing in Confinement” as Ali Jahanpour, 21 years old; Abdoljalil Ehsani, 33 years old; and Yahya Zargari.
According to a reliable source speaking to a reporter from “Breathing in Confinement” 21-year-old Ali Jahanpour, from the Qashqai tribe and a native of Firuzabad, Shiraz, was arrested two years ago on charges of “murder.” Previously, he had been sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Fars Province without legal representation or the right to defense. The Jahanpour family was unable to obtain the pardon of the victim’s family, and his sentence was carried out at dawn on September 16 alongside two other prisoners in Adel Abad Prison, Shiraz.
Abdoljalil Ehsani, 33 years old from Sarbaz County, and Yahya Zargari from Iranshahr were arrested three years ago in separate cases on charges related to “drug offenses” and had been sentenced to death.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
