Three prisoners executed in Ardabil and Isfahan prisons; number of executions on Saturday rises to 14 prisoners

Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Saturday, May 18, 2024, two prisoners in Ardabil prison and one prisoner in Isfahan prison were hanged on charges of “drug-related offenses.” With these executions, at least 14 prisoners were executed on Saturday, May 18.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least two prisoners were executed in Ardabil prison. Fardin Mousazadeh and Mehdi Khadem, who had previously been arrested and sentenced to death for “drug-related offenses,” were hanged at dawn on Saturday, May 18, in Ardabil prison. Additionally, another prisoner named Yaser Abdollahi, 51 years old from Falavarjan, was executed in Isfahan prison. This prisoner had also been previously arrested for “drug-related offenses.”
With the execution of these three prisoners, the number of executions on Saturday, May 18, increased to 14 prisoners.
The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran warning about the human rights situation in Iran, calls on international organisations and human rights entities to intervene decisively to stop the execution machine in Iran.
According to the annual report of the statistics center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed last year. Out of this number, the sentences of 7 individuals were carried out in public. 57 percent of the executions were for “drug-related offenses.”
