Breathing in Confinement — At least three prisoners who had been convicted on drug-related charges were executed by hanging in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the executions were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 27 August 2025. The identities of the executed have been verified as Kazem Fatemi, Hossein Biabani (from Kangavar), and Ahmad-Ali Mehri (from Tazeh Abad, Kuhdasht).
Breathing in Confinement reported on Monday that six prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for execution. The execution of one prisoner was halted and he was returned to the general ward last night; the status of the other prisoner remains unknown.
Kazem Fatemi had been arrested and sentenced to death for allegedly carrying 12 kg of methamphetamine (“shisheh”). Hossein Biabani and Ahmad-Ali Mehri had also been arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges. The sentences were carried out at dawn on 27 August 2025 in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
