According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Right League in Iran, a prisoner has been transferred to solitary confinement in Hamedan in preparation for a public execution. The identity of the prisoner, Mohammad Ali Salamat Hamadani, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
According to reports published in local media, the authorities of the Islamic Republic intend to carry out the public execution of this prisoner at dawn on November 12. Mohammad Ali Salamat Hamadani was previously arrested on charges of “rape” and sentenced to death. Breathing in Confinement had earlier reported the Supreme Court’s approval of this prisoner’s death sentence in late September 2024.
Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
