Transfer of Ahmad Reza Jalali to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj for execution

Breathing in Confinement: On December 1, 2020, the lawyer of Ahmad Reza Jalali, the Iranian-Swedish, physician, and researcher, imprisoned in Evin, was informed that her client would be transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj at 5:00 PM Iranian time. Judicial officials said the reason for the transfer was the execution of this dual-national prisoner.

According to the Human Rights Organization of Iran, Mr. Jalali’s family was informed through his lawyer that he would be transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj to serve his death sentence. Mr. Jalali’s wife said: “Ahmad Reza’s lawyer was informed that he would be transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison today (Tuesday, December 1, 2020) at 5:00 PM Iranian time.”

 

There is a risk of imminent execution for this prisoner.

 

Ahmad Reza Jalali, who had traveled to Iran at the official invitation of the University of Tehran, was arrested by the agents of the Ministry of Intelligence on April 24, 2016. He spent three months in a detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence. Mr. Jalali had been initially charged with “collaborating with hostile states.”

He however, was later sentenced to death in the Revolutionary Court of Tehran on charge of “Moharebeh (fight with God) through espionage for Israel” and the sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.

 

Ahmad Reza Jalali had informed his family of his transfer to solitary confinement through a phone call on November 24, 2020.
