Two Prisoners Executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Breathing in Confinements: At dawn on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the execution of two prisoners who had been sentenced to death on charges of “murder and drug-related crimes” in two separate cases was carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed at dawn on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj. The identity of one of the prisoners, Sajjad Bandegi, a 37-year-old man from Harsin, located in Kermanshah Province, was confirmed by Nafas Dar Ghafas. Sajjad Bandegi had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of drug-related crimes and the murder of an officer. His co-defendant, Frood Garavand, had been hanged on August 6, 2024, in Ghezel Hesar Prison. At the same time, another prisoner identified as Abdulrahman Tajik was executed on drug related charges in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
