Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, at least two prisoners were executed in Kerman Prison.

According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners, including one Baloch prisoner, were hanged in Kerman Prison at dawn on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, on drug related charges.

According to reports received by “Breathing in Confinement,” one of the prisoners was identified as Milad Kamalipour, a 38-year-old from Isfahan. Milad Kamalipour, who was the father of a young daughter, had been arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges. A source familiar with the matter said, “Milad Kamalipour was arrested due to poverty. It was his first time being arrested, yet he was sentenced to death.” The source added, “Milad was transferred to solitary confinement two days ago. On Sunday night, his family was informed to come to the prison for the last visit, and they traveled to Kerman for the last meeting. At dawn today, after sunrise, Milad was executed.”

The other executed prisoner has been identified as Farajollah Khashi (Jamalzahi), a 47-year-old married father of six from Khash.

According to the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 53 prisoners have been executed in various prisons over the past 10 days. The Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, warning of a new and increasing wave of executions amid tensions with Israel, calls on international authorities to take decisive action to prevent further executions.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
