Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Thursday, October 17, 2024, the execution of at least two prisoners convicted of “murder” was carried out in Qom Central Prison.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed at dawn on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Langarud Prison in Qom. The identity of one of these prisoners, Hassan Khodabandehlu, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.

The second prisoner executed on this day was a citizen of Afghanistan, whose identity is still under investigation by Breathing in Confinement.

According to the report from Breathing in Confinement, Hassan Khodabandehlu, a resident of Hamadan, had been arrested two years ago on charges of murder during a fight and was sentenced to death.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.

According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
