Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Monday, November 4, 2024, the execution of two prisoners convicted of murder was carried out in Urmia Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, two prisoners were executed at dawn on Monday, November 4, 2024, in Urmia Central Prison. The identities of these prisoners, Ali Momeni and Ramin Kazem Valilu, have been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
According to a report from Breathing in Confinement, Ali Momeni was arrested in 2022 on charges of murdering a jeweler and was sentenced to death. Ramin Kazem Valilu was also under a death sentence in a separate case for murder.
As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
