Breathing in Confinement – The death sentences of at least six prisoners who had been arrested on charges related to “narcotics” and “murder” were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at dawn on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, executions were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison. The identities confirmed so far are Ahmadreza Garavand, Farshad Garavand, Meysam Karimi, Jaber Asgari, Amir (first name only), and one other prisoner whose identity has not yet been confirmed. The outlet had reported yesterday on the execution of four of these prisoners. In recent days, 15 prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement for execution. For unknown reasons, the remaining executions were halted; some prisoners were returned to the general wards while others remain in solitary. At the same time, families of several death-row prisoners held a protest outside Ghezel Hesar Prison against the execution orders of their relatives.
Ahmadreza Garavand, son of Dar Balut, and Farshad Garavand, son of Pirvali—both from the village of Chaghapit-e Olya in the Tarhan district of Kuhdasht—had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. Meysam Karimi, son of Shekar, from Namkul village in Kuhnan, Kuhdasht, Jaber Asgari, Amir (first name), and another unidentified prisoner had previously been arrested in separate cases on charges of “murder” and sentenced to death. Their sentences were carried out at dawn on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

Annual Report on Executions in Iran
According to the annual report by the Statistics Centre of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 1,170 individuals were executed in Iran in 2024. Among them, six people were executed in public, and the executed also included 38 women and 9 juvenile offenders.
