According to Breathing in Confinement, the news agency of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, a prisoner was executed at dawn on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.
The identity of this prisoner, Vahid Norouzi Mehrabad, has been confirmed by Breathing in Confinement.
According to an informed source who spoke to a Breathing in Confinement reporter, Vahid Norouzi Mehrabad, a 30-year-old from Saveh and resident of Mashhad, had previously been arrested on charges of premeditated murder and sentenced to death.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
