Breathing in Confinement: At dawn on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the execution of a female prisoner convicted of “murder” was carried out in Tabriz Prison.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the execution of a female prisoner in Tabriz Prison was carried out due to her inability to pay the required blood money (diya).
According to information obtained by Breathing in Confinement, Zahra Feizi, 41 years old, had been arrested four years ago on charges of murdering her husband and sentenced to death. The victim’s family had requested 4.5 billion tomans to withdraw the execution, but due to her inability to pay the amount, the sentence was carried out at dawn on Wednesday, October 2.
As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by official resources.
According to the annual report of the Statistics Center of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, at least 848 citizens were executed in 2023. Of these, 7 were executed in public. 57 percent of the executions were for drug related charges.
