Breathing in Confinement: Appeal Court upheld the sentence of 6 years in prison for Ismail Gerami, the retired employee of the Social Security Organization.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals, upheld the sentence of 6 years imprisonment, 74 lashes and a fine of 2 million Tomans for Ismail Gerami.

 

Ismail Gerami, a 67-year-old retirees’ activist was arrested and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, after the Ministry of Intelligence agents raided his home on April 3, 2021. The agents searched his home and confiscated his and his family’s personal belongings, including their mobile phones.

 

Later, after the completion of his interrogation, Mr. Gerami was transferred to the Greater Tehran Penitentiary. A hearing on his charges was held in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in August this year, in which Mr. Gerami was sentenced to six years in prison, 74 lashes, and a fine of 2 million tomans. The sentence was upheld by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals.

Ismail Gerami had previously also been arrested during a rally, held  for demanding the rights of the retirees and workers on March 7, 2021. He however, was released a day later.
