At the end of his leave period, Tohid Amiramini returns to Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: After completing his leave period, Tohid Amiramini, an activist from Azerbaijan Province, returned to Evin Prison on September 7, 2021. He was sent on leave on August 21 of this year with a deposit of 350 million Tomans bail.

 

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on September 7, 2021, Tohid Amiramini returned to Evin Prison at the end of his leave period.

 

He was arrested along with Kianoosh Aslani on February 20, 2019 in Tehran’s Enghelab Square for distributing some pamphlets honoring the International Mother Language Day.

 

Mr. Amiramini was sentenced in February 2019 by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, headed by Judge Iman Afshari, to a total of nine years in prison on charges of “conspiracy to disrupt national security as well as propaganda activities against the regime.” The sentence was later reduced to 7 years and 6 months in prison in Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals in Tehran, presided over by Judge Ahmad Zargar.

 

Eventually, the sentence was reduced to five years in prison under a new law on reducing the prison sentences.

 

Tohid Amiramini had previously also been arrested and convicted for his activities. In one case, he was sentenced to three months in prison as well as flogging on charge of protesting the arrest of the prominent political prisoner Abbas Lesani in 2015.
