Breathing in Confinement: The trial of Yousef Salahshour, an artist and civil activist from Azerbaijan-Iran, was held in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Tabriz.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the morning of October 3, 2021, the trial of the civil activist, Yousef Salahshour who has been charged with “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran on social media,” was held in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Tabriz, presided over by Judge Hossein Fatahnejad.

 

As per the information received by “Breathing in Confinement”, the other charges against Yousef Salahshour, notified to him by the interrogator Hadi Shahabiin in his last interrogation session , are “inciting and inviting people to commit acts of violence on social media as well as disrupting Public order through commotion and illegal gatherings,” for which a court hearing date has not yet been set.

 

The civil activist, Yousef Salahshour who is holding a master’s degree in criminal law, and is an Azeri dance instructor living in Tabriz, was arrested on July 25, 2021 by Ministry of Intelligence agents at his home and transferred to the Intelligence Detention Center in Tabriz.

 

On completion of his interrogation on August 11, 2021, Mr. Salahshour was transferred to Tabriz Central Prison and after three days, was temporarily released on 60 million tomans bail awaiting the trial.

 

It worth mentioning that Yousef Salahshour was arrested in 2011 in a meeting with about 29 civil activists, held in Tabriz to protest the drying up of Urmia Lake and was sentenced to 20 months suspended imprisonment.
