Revolutionary Court of Urmia; Sentences a Teacher to Imprisonment and Fine

Breathing in Confinement: Karim Bastanji, a teacher and trade union activist, was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court and the Criminal Court of Urmia to 3 months of disciplinary imprisonment and a fine of 15 million tomans, as well as confiscation of his mobile phone in favor of the government.
According to “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League of Iran, Karim Bastanji, a teacher and trade union activist with 27 years of service in education, was separately sentenced by the Revolutionary Courts as well as the Criminal Court to imprisonment and financial penalties.
The Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced Mr. Bastanji to 3 months of disciplinary imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime in favor of opposing groups.” Meanwhile, by the Criminal Court Branch 110 of Urmia, he was fined 15 million tomans and his mobile phone was confiscated for the charge of “spreading lies on social media with the intention of disturbing public opinion” in favor of the government.
Mr. Bastanji had previously been sentenced to mandatory retirement with a reduction in rank by the Administrative Offenses Tribunal of Education and Training in West Azerbaijan Province, despite having 27 years of experience in education and teaching.
