Sanandaj; People’s protests are ongoing after the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini

Breathing in Confinement: On September 17, the people of Sanandaj protested against the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini and stood up against the Police Special Forces.

 

According to “Breathing in Confinement”, the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, following the people’s protests in Tehran and Saqqez, on September 17, people, especially women, came to the streets in Sanandaj to protest the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini.

Police Special Forces and security agents attempted to prevent the gathering, but failed to do so as people resisted.

Protesters marched with the slogans “Death to Khamenei”, “Death to the dictator”, and “Women, life and freedom”. The security agents fired tear gases and birdshot bullets to stop the people.

The young protesters in Sanandaj pulled down the photo of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force.

According to the witnesses, the protests are ongoing in Sanandaj and Saqqez, where the authorities of the Islamic Republic have cut off cell phone’s internet to prevent the spread of news, Wi-Fi has also become very slow.

After the funeral, the people gathered in front of the governor’s office in Saqqez.

The Police Special Unit in Saqqez targeted the protesters with tear gases and birdshot pellets, leaving at least 15 people injured, one of them in critical condition.

The night before, during a protest rally held in front of Kasra Hospital in Tehran, where Mahsa Amini was admitted, a number of civil activists, including Zaniar Mohammad Nejad and Leila Mirghafari, were arrested and taken to an unknown location.

 

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman from Saqqez, who had traveled to Tehran with her family, was arrested on Tuesday, September 13, at Haqqani metro station by the so called Moral Police agents. Hours later, her half-dead body was transferred from “Vozara Detention Center” to the ICU at Kasra Hospital, and finally died on Friday, September 16, 2022.
