Breathing in Confinement – The hunger strike campaign “Tuesdays Against Execution” has entered its 85th week and has now spread to 52 prisons across the country.

The relentless wave of executions is not only a blatant violation of fundamental human rights and the most basic principles of fair trial, but also leaves a deep wound on the public conscience and unravels the fabric of social trust.

This is not merely a judicial case. It is about families mourning their loved ones every day. The “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign echoes these pains and cries; a movement that rose from within the prisons, broke through walls of silence, and has become the shared voice of those striving for freedom. The participation of prisoners in Sabzevar, the protests of the people in Semirom, and strikes in response to the execution of Mehran Bahramian show that this movement is not about one sentence or one person, but a collective and deep-rooted defence of human dignity and justice.

Today, more than ever, we must insist on the truth that life is a divine gift and an undeniable right of every human being. No power has the authority to take it away. In honour of spilled blood and in memory of countless mourners, we must stand and cry out: “No to execution, no to oppression and repression; yes to resistance for justice, freedom, and life.”

Statement of political prisoners:

“With hearts filled with sorrow, once again we witness the cruel executions that not only violate the human and legal rights of prisoners but also wound the conscience of society.

The brutal and inhumane execution of political prisoner Mehran Bahramian in Semirom not only deprived one individual of his right to life but also ignited a fire of anger and protest in the hearts of his family and the honourable people of this city. The dignified strike by shopkeepers and justice-seeking citizens of Semirom is proof that our people will not remain silent in the face of these crimes and will continue their struggle until their rights are achieved.

In another criminal act of the ruling religious dictatorship, two Sunni prisoners of conscience, Eskandar Bazmandegan and Mohammad Kashefi, were hanged in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz, in silence.

Painful statistics show that since 20 August, 92 prisoners, including 4 women, have been executed. The execution-driven government took 46 lives only in the past week. Since 20 March 2025, a total of 756 executions have been recorded, of which 100 were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison alone — accounting for more than 13% of all executions.

According to received reports, a group of prisoners in Sabzevar Prison have announced that starting this week, they will join the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign and will go on hunger strike every Tuesday in protest against the wave of executions.

The members of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign firmly declare:

Execution is a tool for blatant human rights violations and repression of freedoms.

We demand the immediate and total halt of all executions across the country.

The voice of this campaign is the voice of solidarity and support for all victims of inhumane policies in Iran, and until justice, freedom, and respect for human rights and dignity are achieved, this voice will continue to echo in the prisons. We call on all honourable and freedom-seeking people to follow the example of justice-seeking families and the honourable people of Semirom, and to raise the flag of No to Execution in every city and every street.

Life is the fundamental right of every human being, and no government has the right to take it away. In honour of spilled blood and in respect for grieving families, we must cry out: No to execution, no to dictatorship and repression; yes to justice and people’s sovereignty.
