Breathing in Confinement – The hunger strike of political prisoners participating in the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign has entered its 106th week, spanning 56 prisons across the country.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the statement issued by political prisoners on hunger strike as part of the Tuesdays Against Execution campaign comes at a time when, grounded in their historical responsibility to protect human life and in continued resistance to the machinery of repression and death, they have raised a voice born of suffering, awareness, and steadfastness. This voice stands against systematic killing, enforced disappearance, and the escalating wave of executions, and calls upon the awakened conscience of society to solidarity, exposure, and unwavering defence of the right to life and human dignity.

Full statement of the political prisoners:

“More than three weeks after the brutal killing of people in neighbourhoods, streets, and public spaces across Iran, and the arrest of tens of thousands of defenceless citizens, vast segments of Iranian society remain in complete uncertainty regarding the fate and condition of their loved ones. These actions by the repressive government constitute state killing and enforced disappearance, for which the primary responsibility lies with the Supreme Leader.

Many detainees have been secretly tried without the right to a fair trial and now face the threat of heavy sentences and execution. Security institutions have threatened many independent lawyers, warning them that they are not permitted to represent detainees from the January uprising.

We, the members of the Tuesdays Against Execution campaign, call upon all families of detainees and those killed to raise their voices and publicly share the names of their loved ones. We also call upon all honourable people and human rights, labour, civil, and political activists to be, more than ever, the voice of prisoners and the recently detained.

The despotic government is recklessly and hysterically carrying out executions, such that since 20 January at least 123 people have been executed, and since 20 March more than 2,350 people have been hanged.

Protesting the violation of the Iranian people’s rights and the thousands of young women, men, and children whose lives have been unjustly taken by the bullets and blades of the ruling religious fascist repressors ultimately led to the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation by the European Union—a significant step forward in the struggle of the Iranian people. This has long been a demand not only of the members of this campaign and all political prisoners, but of all freedom- and equality-seeking people of Iran.”
