Breathing in Confinement – On Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the hunger strike of political prisoners participating in the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign reached its one hundred and eighth consecutive week, spanning 56 prisons across the country.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, on the fortieth day commemorating those killed during the January uprising—at a time when families and the courageous people of Iran, with steadfast determination, honour the memory of their loved ones and renew their resolve to continue the path toward freedom and justice—political prisoners affiliated with the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign have also declared their support and solidarity in unison with them.
This statement is issued amid an alarming escalation of repression, widespread arrests, the issuance and implementation of death sentences, and intensified pressure on prisoners, placing the lives of many detainees in immediate danger. Emphasising the right to life and human dignity, the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, while expressing sympathy with the families of those killed and imprisoned, calls for immediate action to halt executions and secure the release of detainees. The campaign urges the public to break the silence and become the voice of defenceless prisoners.
Full Statement of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign
On the fortieth day commemorating those killed in the January uprising, and with our deepest condolences to the families and the courageous people who, during the memorial ceremonies for their loved ones, honour those martyrs with unwavering determination and, instead of mourning, reaffirm their resolve to continue the struggle until victory, the members of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign declare their full solidarity and unwavering support for the uprising of the Iranian people and the families of the victims.
The documents, videos, and photographs that have gradually emerged in recent days—revealing aspects of the major crimes committed by the oppressive regime during January—confirm the ominous statement made by Khamenei that “the God of today is the same God of the 1980s.” This level of brutality once again reminds us of the horrific and vast scale of crimes against humanity and the secret mass killings carried out in prisons during the 1980s and in 1988, crimes that were hidden from cameras and whose full dimensions have yet to be revealed.
Today, tens of thousands of detainees from the recent protests are subjected to pressure and torture, with plans underway to issue death sentences and lengthy prison terms against them. We call upon all international bodies to take immediate action to save these prisoners. Meanwhile, from 21 January to the present, more than 300 prisoners, including three women, have been executed.
According to published reports, Saleh Mohammadi, an 18-year-old wrestler arrested during the January protests, is facing a death sentence in Qom Prison, and his life is in serious danger.
Members of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign call on the people of Iran—particularly the families of detainees—not to remain silent, to publicise news and the names of their loved ones, and to be their voice.
