“National Uprising: Javad Roohi Dies in Noshahr Prison

Breathing in Confinement; On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Javad Roohi, one of the detainees of the 2022 nationwide uprising, who was imprisoned in Noshahr Prison, lost his life.
According to the “Breathing in Confinement,” the news organ of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Javad Roohi, one of the detainees of the 2022 nationwide uprising, passed away under unknown circumstances in Noshahr Prison.
The Judiciary Media Center claimed that Mr. Roohi developed seizure for unknown reason and, passed away after being transferred to Baqiyatallah Hospital in Noshahr .
In his previous court hearing, Javad Roohi had been sentenced to three times execution but his sentence was overturned, and he was awaiting a retrial.
Majid Kaaveh, the defense attorney for this prisoner, confirmed this news, stating: “Unfortunately, according to my client’s family, Javad Roohi passed away a few hours ago in Noshahr Prison.”
It’s worth noting that earlier this year in March, Javad Roohi had been detained by Branch One of the Sari Revolutionary Court on charges of corruption on Earth, rebellion against Islamic ruller, apostasy through desecration of the Quran by burning it, insulting sanctities, arson, and destruction of public property, as well as inciting some citizens to destabilise national security. In January 2023, his case had been referred for final review to the Ninth Branch of the Supreme Court.
Ultimately, Javad Roohi’s three death sentences and other penalties were overturned in the Ninth Branch of the Supreme Court, and his case was referred back to the lower court for retrial. Javad Roohi, a 35-year-old protester from Amol, had previously been detained during the nationwide uprising in Noshahr.
