Breathing in Confinement – Hamid Reza Rahmati, a member of the Teachers’ Guild Association in Isfahan, was arrested by the police, in front of his house in Shahreza County.

According to the Teachers’ Guild Association, Hamid Reza Rahmati, a member of the Teachers’ Guild Association in Isfahan, was arrested by the police in Shahreza County, on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 12:50 pm.

As per the report, Mr. Rahmati has said he will go on a hunger strike as soon as he arrives in prison.

In July this year, Hamid Reza Rahmati had been sentenced to 18 months in prison as well as 74 lashes in public, on alleged charge of “disturbing public order through unconventional movements in work environment of Education Department “. He had also been sentenced to 18 months in prison and paying a fine of 2 million Tomans on alleged charge of “threatening to violence and promoting it, using messages in virtual space”.

 

According to the verdict, Rahmati is sentenced to serve 10 months of his imprisonment in exile in the city of Nayin, and his lash punishment will be meted out in public in Shahreza Prison courtyard, in the presence of all other inmates and the prison’s supervising judge.

In addition, as a complementary punishment, the court has ordered Hamid Reza Rahmati to distribute his final verdict in and to stick it on the wall of the Education Department in Shahreza County, as well as preparing and publishing a list of forty examples of Iranian government’s development measures and its services over the past 40 years.

In his indictment, the charges against Mr. Rahmati are mentioned as a one-person strike in the Education Department of Shahreza County, as well as holding a petition saying “in protest against detention of the true teachers and until receiving a correct answer, I will remain on strike”.

The verdict against Hamid Reza Rahmati was upheld in Isfahan Court of Appeal.
