Ishmael Bakhshi released on bail

Breathing in Confinement – Ismail Bakhshi, the representative of the workers at Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Factory, was temporarily released on bail of 750 million Tomans (roughly equal to $580,000) on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
According to the Telegram Channel of Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Mill Labor Syndicate, Bakhshi is being temporarily released on bail of 750 million Tomans waiting for the decision of the appeals court.
In September this year, Tehran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced Ismail Bakhshi to 14 years in prison as well as 74 lashes. The final verdict will be announced after the appeals court’s decision.
Throughout the weeks of protests by the workers of Haft Tappeh sugarcane Factory, in the fall of 2018 in Ahwaz, Mr. Bakhshi acted as their spokesman.
Ismail Bakhshi and Sepideh Gholian- labor activists, were both arrested last year in November during workers’ protests at Haft Tappeh. They were later released on bail and announced that while in prison, they had been tortured by the Ministry of Intelligence and Security forces.
Sepideh Gholian was also released on bail last week.
