Breathing in Confinement – At least twelve protest gatherings were held across the country by different groups of people.

According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, Social Security retirees in Ahvaz and Rasht, as well as Social Security and steel retirees in Tehran, gathered to protest against low pensions, discrimination, inequality, poverty, and inflation. Protesters demanded the removal of the Social Security Organisation from state monopoly, amendment of Article 89 of the Social Security Law regarding healthcare services, improved pensions, and upgraded welfare services.
At their gatherings, retirees chanted: “Enough of oppression and injustice, our tables are empty,” “Worker prisoners, teacher prisoners must be freed,” “Sharifeh Mohammadi must be freed,” “Masoud Farhikhteh must be freed,” “Peyman Farahavar must be freed,” and “Imprisoned retirees must be freed.”

In Isfahan, steel and mine retirees also gathered to protest against the improper implementation of pension equalisation, worsening livelihood problems, injustice, and delayed payment of their entitlements.

At the same time, applicants of the teachers’ recruitment exam gathered outside the Parliament to protest discrimination, injustice, and the preferential treatment of certain candidates. They demanded the removal of the “employed candidates’ coefficient” from exam results and chanted: “Remove the employed candidates’ coefficient, employment justice,” “Justice, justice, the demand of every applicant.”

In Hamedan, residents of the Farhangiyan housing complex protested against the installation of a telecommunications tower and the harmful effects of its radiation on public health. State agents attempted to disperse the protesters using pepper spray and violence.

Employees of Sharif University also gathered to protest livelihood and welfare problems.

In Tehran, students of Khajeh Nasir University staged a sit-in over lack of welfare and educational facilities, discrimination, and neglect of student demands.

Truck drivers of imported vehicles held a gathering for the second day in front of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade. They protested two years of uncertainty and obstruction in clearing their trucks from customs, chanting: “You cannot answer us by looking through the windows,” “Hayhat min al-dhilla,” “Drivers are vigilant, they will not accept humiliation.”

Bakers in Ahvaz gathered outside the governor’s office to protest the non-payment of bakers’ subsidies.

Workers of the porcelain factory in Gonabad also gathered for the second consecutive day to protest delayed wages in front of the factory.

In Qazvin, poultry sellers closed their shops and went on strike to protest against compulsory membership in the “RahAva” system and restrictive regulations.
