16-Year Prison Sentences Issued for Tara and Kimia Davoudi, Two Political Prisoners Held in Evin Prison

Breathing in Confinement: Tara and Kimia Davoudi, two sisters and political prisoners held in Evin Prison who were arrested during the nationwide January protests, have been sentenced to a combined total of 16 years’ imprisonment.
According to Breathing in Confinement, the news outlet of the Prisoners’ Rights League in Iran, the sentences were issued by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salavati. Under the ruling, Kimia Davoudi was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on charges of “communication with opposition groups and networks” and “assembly and collusion against national security.” Tara Davoudi was also sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the system.”
Tara Davoudi, a graduate of surveying from the University of Isfahan, and Kimia Davoudi, a law graduate from Razi University of Kermanshah, were arrested in Tehran on 14 January and are currently being held in the women’s ward of Evin Prison.
Reports indicate that the arrest of the two sisters was accompanied by violence and physical assault by security forces.
